Travis ran away to go to hawaii, and wasnt seen for three years. The author describes in great detail about the life of drugs. As some people would most likely draw away from this type of book, i was more intrested. What readers think is an innocent love story, soon turns into a life of drugs, sex, and violence. We find him to be regretting ever leaving his love, laura. This book is very true-to-life, which is why I liked it. Life does not turn out happily ever after. Just when you think something may take a turn for the better, you think of the two phrases in the foreward. He wants to leave all the drama and bad influences behind him, but can he? Travis soon realizes that his life is not how he wants it. Will she give Travis false hope of them getting back together? The girl Travis fell in love with, Laura, returns to him after breaking up with her boyfriend. Travis leaves on a trip from Hawaii and, when he returns, he seems even more unsettled than before he left. He snorts an excess amount of cocaine with his friends, goes to many parties, hooks up with girls, and dreams about them. School is over and Travis goes back to his going nowhere lifestyle. These two phrases, which appear in the foreward, are true to life for the main character, Travis.
